There are still so many places that I haven’t traveled in the state of Colorado. Crested Butte has been on my list since the first year I moved here, but it wasn’t until this weekend that I finally made the journey and I must say, it didn’t disappoint.
The town itself sits at about 8885 and seems to be one of those places that has yet to be fully discovered. It’s still quite a drive from Denver (about 4ish hours), but has a decent market if you want to air b’n’b something, which is what our crew did. The house was right downtown and had 3 bedrooms for our crew of 7. Add in the fact that there was a hot tub and we were only 3 blocks from the mt. shuttle – score.
The riding/skiing was less exciting based on the fact that there was limited snow the last few weeks, but it was still a blast. I love that it is such a vertical mountain and lots of different things to hike and ride. It felt a lot like spring skiing, which is crazy considering it’s still February.
We went out as a group on Saturday night and then with Kori and Steph for dinner on Sunday. Lot of fun times and sights in the ole Crested Butte. I can see why so many friends chose to call it home for the years that they did. Seems like it would be hard to live there, just because like most ski towns, its super expensive and job opportunities are limited. Even so, it’s such a cool town. You just know it’s only a matter of time before it turns into something super elite, like Telluride.
Can’t wait to go back when there is more snow or sun to enjoy.
